Back from another night of amateur fights with Knockout Fight League

We had 5 fighters on the card so it was a busy night. 3 debuts with RJ Draper, Matthew Lopez, Salvador Gonzalez. Tyler Nakashima in his 2nd fight and Josh Vogelsang fighting for the Middleweight title.

Sal was up first. He dominated the first rounds with takedowns and back control. The 2nd and 3rd rounds slowed down a bit with his takedown effectiveness dropping and Sal was unable to keep control on the takedowns he did get. He ended up losing 29-28 across all judges' scorecards.

Next up was Josh fighting for the Welterweight CAMO championship. It was a similar story to Sal's fight. He had a completely dominant 1st round beating up his opponent on the feet and stopping his opponent's takedown attempts. He slowed down in rounds 2 and 3 and gave up some takedowns that let the judges score the win for his opponent. 0-2 for the night so far.

Up third was Tyler, coming off a KO win in his last fight. Tyler dominated the 1st round throwing a lot of shots on the feet with BAD intent and landing a good number of them along with mixing in a takedown as well. The 2nd round was more of the same until Tyler's opponent landed a big right hand that wobbled Tyler. Tyler stayed composed and survived the round, but it was probably 19-19 at this point. Then in the third round Tyler got cracked again and wobbled a bit, but this time when his opponent tried to finish, Tyler landed a HUGE punch that dropped his opponent. Tyler swarmed in for the kill and the ref stopped it bringing Tyler's record to 2-0 and bringing our team to 1-2 for the night.

Our penultimate fight for the night was Matt. Matt is a solid wrestler and fought another wrestler that was noticeably bigger than him. Matt didn't really cut weight for this fight and the size/strength difference made a difference in the fight. Matt's opponent managed to stop Matt's takedown attempts and ended up taking down Matt in each round. Matt started to run out of gas in the 3rd and his opponent flurried on the ground to get the ref stoppage with only a couple seconds left in the 3rd round. 1-3 for the night.

Last up was RJ. He needs to win to stop us from going 1-4 for the night! The first two rounds weren't the most exciting. RJ landed a little bit on the feet while the only strike he was hit with across the two rounds was a grazing body kick. He landed takedowns at the end of both rounds to seal the deal. Should be 20-18 easy. In between rounds 2 and 3, we tell RJ that he needs to get the takedown sooner and seal this fight. He is 2-0 on takedown attempts, no need to wait for the end of the round. In round 3 he does exactly that and spends the round landing ground & pound until the bell rings. 30-27 easy. When it comes to the judges, we hear it's a split decision and are confused. It turns out 2 judges scored the fight 30-27 for RJ (the correct score) and one judge somehow scored the fight 29-28 for RJs opponent. Ridiculous, but either way RJ wins his debut without taking any real damage and brings the team to 2-3 for the night.

Earlier in the week I had joked that RJ looks like a cop because of the mustache he is growing. I told him that if he wins, I will buy him some Ray-Ban Aviators. Looks like I am going to have to buy those now...
