June 2015 - Knockout Fight League
by Maxamilian Demian on Jun 7, 2015
Back from another night of fights held by Knockout Promotions at the Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove, California. Had 2 grappling matches and 3 fights to corner (2 of which were debuts). Mario Delgado went to a 10-minute draw with his opponent while AJ McKee submitted his opponent in a minute and a half with a crucifix while INSIDE his full guard!
Now for the fights! It wasn’t our greatest night, but they happen and you gotta work through them. First up was Trevor Erickson who was making his MMA debut at age 40! He fought through some adversity in the first round after getting dropped by a big punch and came back to win the next two rounds on every scorecard to take the unanimous 29-28 decision. Next up was Ryan Medina who had the worst incident of the night for our guys. After wobbling his opponent with a big punch early, they clashed heads HARD in the first 10 seconds, leaving Ryan basically out on his feet to get finished by his opponent that got the better of the accidental head clash. Last, we had Shawn Gardner making his debut. He had a dominant first round, taking his opponent down, passing to mount and landing some GnP. With the stoppage ready to happen at any moment, Shawn decided to go for an armbar that lost him the position and let the fight go into the second round. In the second round, Shawn’s gas tank was clearly empty and his opponent took advantage of that, getting the ref stoppage on the feet with one second left in the round.
All-in-all it’s not the kind of night that we’re used to. While we normally walk away with all wins or 1 loss at the worst, we went 1-2 for the fights. But it happens, and everyone just has to make sure to learn from their mistakes and be ready for the next time.
