This entry is a few weeks late as I've been preoccupied with work. But better late than never!

Friday, June 29 was Bellator 201 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino and we had Josh Jones on the card fighting Jacob Rosales.

Straight to the fight, the 1st round was probably the closest round of the fight. Jacob managed to rock Josh early on the feet - but Josh recovered, landed a few takedowns and controlled most of the round. Me and Tracy went back and forth on who that round should go to. In the 2nd round, Josh went for a takedown and got countered and ended up stuck on his back for most of the round. He didn't take too much damage, but he took enough that the round was clearly going to Jacob. Josh got to his feet near the end of the round and was moving and throwing on the feet while Jacob looked like he was starting to fade. So the plan for round 3 was to keep it on the feet and keep the fight moving since Josh has amazing cardio. Round 3 saw Josh on his bicycle, sticking and moving the entire round and getting the better shots on the feet while Jacob had to chase him. Josh managed to land one more takedown at the end of the round to try and put a stamp on it. After the round, I was concerned about what the judges actually saw in round 3. Did they watch Josh sticking and moving while not taking damage? or did they watch Jacob walking down his opponent for 5 minutes? To me, walking someone down means cutting them off, not chasing them. And even then, cage control doesn't mean much if you are getting hit and not landing hits yourself.

In the end, the judges gave Jacob the unanimous decision in a well-fought fight by both fighters. As always, we know what to work on with Josh to make sure he improves for the next fight and when that happens, I will post about it!
