March 2016 - CXF 1 - The Return
by Maxamilian Demian on Mar 5, 2016
Back at the Sportsmen’s Lodge in Studio City for another night of pro fights at CXF. We only had Josh Jones fighting, but it was his first fight in over a year. Tracy Hess couldn’t make it, so I took over head coaching duties and Mario Delgado was there with me to make sure Josh had everything he needed to be ready.
Once it was fight time, the two fighters had an exciting first round. Josh came out planning to strike since everyone knows him as a wrestler. Once his opponent (a Judo player) realized that, the fight turned into a ground battle with lots of reversals back and forth on the mat. After an adjustment made in between the first and second round to prevent anymore reversals on the ground, Josh came out with a big double leg slam and spent the entire next 5 minutes ground and pounding his opponent and beating the ever-living piss out of his ribs in what was easily a 10-8 round. Come round three, all those body shots were money in the bank as Josh was still on his bicycle and his opponent has no gas left. A few minutes into the third, Josh goes for a guillotine, ends up on top and finishes with GnP for the third round TKO by ref stoppage. This was the best I’ve ever seen Josh look and the sky is the limit if he can keep his training and cardio on this level.
Also got a few bonus pictures!
- Sometimes waiting for your fighter to be up gets boring. Only then will you understand why you might want to mummify yourself in the locker room, lol.
- I also randomly found my homey Ricky Camp from when I used to I live and teach BJJ on Guam. Small world!
- The last shot is Josh Barnett looking over his fighter after receiving post-fight stitches in what I heard was probably the fight of the night. Just another reminder that was we do is VERY real and not just a popularity contest.
