March 2017 - Knockout Fight League
by Maxamilian Demian on Mar 26, 2017
Back home from another Knockout Fight League show at Metroflex in Long Beach, CA. This time we only had one fighter — Jesse Herrera — fighting on the card. Jesse was supposed to be fighting at lightweight (155), but his opponent weighed in TWENTY pounds overweight! Jesse still wanted to fight and since CAMO requires fighters to be within 10 pounds of eachother, Jesse had to GAIN weight to be able to fight. Besides that, one of our sister gyms — Adam Lynn's Subfighter — had Geoff Mellor fighting again as well.
Come fight time, Geoff was the first up of the two. Geoff dominated his opponent on the ground in the first round and made it very clear that his opponent had no chance of winning in that aspect of the fight. More of the same in the second round until Geoff submitted his opponent with a rear naked choke for the win. (sorry about the shitty blurry pic :p)
Onto Jesse's fight. He hit a takedown on his opponent about 30 seconds into the first round. After a bit of ground & pound, Jesse passed to the mount position and started a flurry of 50-100 hammer fists before referee Larry Landless saw enough and called a stop to the fight for the TKO win around a minute and a half into the first round.
Next up... the Russ Miura's Subfighter BJJ tournament tomorrow
