Back from tonight’s Get Down Fights 17 at the Yost Theater in Santa Ana, CA. There was an 8-man, 180lbs, purple belt+ submission grappling tournament. The matches were in the cage, two 5-minute rounds and sub-only/judges decision. I went to coach Mario Delgado (who is actually still a white belt, but is a very solid wrestler and MMA fighter that is due for his blue belt). He won his first match against a brown belt in a fairly dominant match that surprised even me, then he lost his semi-final match. Even though he didn’t win, I couldn’t be more proud of his performance after his first match.
