August brings us another California Xtreme Fighting show in Studio City, California. This time around we have Mark Alvidrez and Gabriel Green fighting on the card. Gabe is also fighting for the lightweight title in the main event.

First up was Mark against a tough, well-matched opponent. All 3 rounds went very similar. In the first round, they traded on the feet for about a minute with no real heavy shots landed by either side before Mark shoots for a takedown, gets it and lands on top. Mark is on top for a good minute, but his head is caught in a guillotine position and he eventually gets rolled to his back and spends the rest of the first round on his back. In the second round, Mark knew to watch for the guillotine. After some light trading on the feet, Mark gets a takedown, avoids the guillotine and passes the guard. He spends around a minute on top again before his opponent catches him off base and rolls him to his back. The 2nd round ends like the first with Mark spending a good amount of it on his back after getting the top position originally. More of the same in the third round before the fight ends and Mark's opponent is awarded the judges decision. Both fighters fought hard for the entire 15 min and Mark fought well. We just have a hole in his game that we need to patch up to make sure Mark can stay on top in the future.

Then we had Gabe in the main event against Richard LeRoy for the CXF lightweight championship. LeRoy is undefeated, a strong wrestler and known for being a TOUGH grinder. He takes fighters biggest shots and won't quit — dragging fighters into deep water in the later rounds and beating them when they have nothing left. We know Gabe is tough, has cardio for days and can grand out victories as well. That along with knowing would be the more athletic of the two led to the gameplan of staying moving, punishing LeRoy early and actually trying to out-grind LeRoy. Gabe did exactly that in the first round. The entire round was on the feet aside from a few short moments on the mat. Gabe got on his bicycle and was moving in and out landing good shots. At one point, Gabe goes for a takedown (something LeRoy likely didn't expect from Gabe). Gabe got deep on the takedown but LeRoy hit a nice switch to get on top and immediately mounted Gabe. Gabe had escaped within seconds and tried to setup a foot lock/back take, but they both ended up back on their feet and Gabe was back to the gameplan. LeRoy landed a couple of heavy punches in the round, but it was clearly Gabe's round. Come round 2, LeRoy has adjusted his strategy and is actually landing a bit more on Gabe. Gabe even admitted after the fight that one of the punches seriously rocked him, but he tried his best to no-sell it. Around half-way through the 2nd round, LeRoy is starting to wilt as Gabe's movement and pressure never let up. Gabe starts landing bigger shots and backs LeRoy to the cage, eventually dropping LeRoy with a punch and dropping bombs on the ground trying to finish the fight (even breaking his hand trying). The ref goes in to stop the fight two separate times, but LeRoy keeps getting back up somehow. But then, after LeRoy gets dropped again, the ref decides that LeRoy has had enough and ends the fight, giving Gabe the second round victory via ref stoppage!
